Walter Theodore Bell Jr's Obituary
Walter T. “Fatso” Bell Jr. 94, passed away at home on January 16, 2025. Raised in Kaimuki, he attended Kaimuki High School, followed by 8 years in the Army and 36 years at GTE Hawaiian Tel.
As a kid growing up, Fatso’s stomping grounds were Petrie Park and Cromwell’s beach, where he formed lifelong friendships with many family names in the area. Following his high school graduation, Fatso served 8 years in the Army, then worked for 36 years at GTE Hawaiian Tel.
He shared his deep love of Hawaiian music through his talents as a great guitar and ukulele player with a melodious voice and expansive repertoire of songs. Throughout his lifetime he was an avid UH all season sports ticket holder who rarely missed a game. Fatso also enjoyed swimming at Baby Makapu’u, often
accompanied by the family dog. He could be seen walking laps at Petrie Park field, into his early 90’s.
Throughout his life he enjoyed a rather private lifestyle of family parties and trips to Las Vegas.
Fatso is survived by sister Gladys Williams, brother Richard “Baby”, and many nieces and nephews.
Pre deceased by parents Walter Sr. and Ella, sisters Alice Kamahele, Vivian Luning and brother Kenneth “Sonny”.
Visitation at 4 pm followed by service at 5pm, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Diamond Head Memorial.
Private Inurnment ceremony to be held with full military honors at the National Cemetery of the Pacific at a later date.
