Warren Alexander Smith's Obituary
Warren Smith
September 27, 1936 – January 15, 2026
Warren Smith passed away peacefully at Queen Medical Center, Honolulu, on January 15, 2026, at the age of 89.
Warren was born on September 27, 1936, in the Panama Canal Zone to William F. Smith and Helen Smith. His father, a Wyoming farm boy, left the family farm to serve his country, enlisting in the Navy and dedicating 29 years as a naval aviator. Warren’s father was stationed at Pearl Harbor during WWII. His mother was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Portuguese Hawaiian parents, instilling in Warren a lifelong connection to the islands that would always hold his heart. Warren was raised in Waikiki.
As the son of a career naval officer, Warren moved frequently during his childhood before his family eventually settled in Houston, Texas, in the late 1950s. He attended San Jacinto High School and, upon graduation, continued his education at Texas A&M University. While at Texas A&M, he joined the Corps of Cadets, rising to the rank of Company Commander before commissioning into the United States Army in 1958.
In 1960, Warren married, Judy Keehan. Warren began his professional career with the Texas Railroad Commission before accepting a position with Gulf Oil Corporation. His work led them to live throughout the United States and eventually overseas in Tokyo, Japan. Following their return from Japan, Warren continued his career with Gulf Oil and later Chevron, with assignments that took him across the Middle East and West Africa.
After many years abroad, including an extended period in West Africa, Warren returned to the United States and made his home in California with his second wife, Eiko Smith, for many years. In time, he returned to Hawaii — the place that had always held a special place in his heart. He spent the last seven years of his life in Honolulu, surrounded by the beauty and spirit of the islands he loved.
Warren will be remembered for his commitment as good father and provider. He will also be remembered for his sense of humor and his adventurous spirit. He leaves behind a legacy that will endure in the hearts of those who knew him including his two surviving sons, twins David and Daniel, and their wives, Cathy and Stephanie. He is also survived by David and Cathy’s three children, Joshua, Sarah, and Mary, as well as Daniel and Stephanie ‘s three daughters, Rachel, Hannah, and Jordan and his eldest son Michael, who predeceased him and Michael’s two sons, Trevor and Nathan.
