A former co-worker, his roommate and I often spoke about real estate. When my apartment was put on the market as a rental, accounting expertise was needed to guide me through the applicable tax forms and allowable expenses---Allen was highly recommended. I did the initial drafts of the Federal and State returns, and compiled a list of questions. Subsequently, I met with Allen to review my returns and address my inquiries so that I could finalized the returns on my own at home. With business out of the way, we managed to spend time afterwards to have non-accounting conversations. Our in-person meetings continued for years up until his retirement. Allen was a consummate professional and a kind soul. I was blessed to have known him.
Allen provided CPA services for a non-profit foster family organization I was executive director for in the mid-1990s to mid-2000s. He was just the kindest, gentlest man, and guided this fledging organization and its somewhat clueless ED in assuring that it kept accurate and proper books. I have not been in touch in ages, but saw the obituary and was so sad to hear of his illness and death. My sympathies to his family for losing him far too early. The world was a better place because he walked among us.
I worked for Allen M Arakaki, CPA from 1987-1991 while my husband was stationed in Hawaii. This Haole with a Southern accent was unfamiliar with the Hawaiian names, but I was quickly welcomed into this wonderful fun loving office with the best boss in the world. We all were very close and cared for each other. Thirty one years later I still maintain contact. I am so sorry about Allen’s death, but I know he suffered for so long. I am so thankful I have fond memories of Allen and our working relationship.
