Edward George Emerling's Obituary
Dr. Edward G. Emerling entered his heavenly home on March 6, 2023, in Honolulu, Hawaii where he resided for the past 40 years. He was born on May 4, 1924 & was predeceased by his parents, brothers, John, Raymond, Joseph and James Emerling and sisters, Adelaide Niland, Helen Emerling and Marie Rose. He leaves his wife, June (Paik) Emerling who was the love of his life. In addition, he is survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.
Ed grew up in Meriden, Ct & attended local schools. At the age of 18 he enlisted into the then US Army Air Corp when WW2 erupted.
He notes that his "greatest accomplishment in his life was the successful completion of the pilot training program". He went on to fly as a combat pilot in World War II (in Europe & beyond) flying B-17, B-24 & B-29 bombers. After he was injured, he "chased Nazi Submarines on the East coast, flew high altitude "picture taking" assignments, trained future bombardiers & navigators & gunmen and advised the famous "Polish Eagle Squadron" tactics & was invited to become the personal pilot of the US Army Air Corp Inspector General.
After the war, he attended St. Bonaventure University in Buffalo, New York. He went on to earn his PHD in Economics from Catholic University. He was a professor & department chair of Economics at St. Bonaventure for over 25 years. He was well respected as a professor with his students praising him for his outstanding training, and guidance.
He and his wife then retired to Honolulu, Hawaii whereby they established an import/export business. He and June spent many wonderful years in their paradise home with her wonderful family.
