Helen Marie DeCastro's Obituary
A Life of Quiet Care – Helen Marie De Castro
January 10th, 1943 - February 5th, 2026
Our family feels the quiet space left by Helen Marie De Castro, who took her first breath in Honolulu on January 10, 1943, and her last in the same city on February 5, 2026. She was a beloved mother to Bradley De Castro and a treasured grandmother to Justin De Castro. To her sister-in-law Donna De Castro, Helen was both confidant and friend.
Kind, responsible, loyal, humble, and compassionate: those five words follow her name wherever we speak it. Helen loved and cherished being with her family, and every visit felt like the most important part of her day. She never let her own needs rise above ours, living out her simple truth that caring for others mattered most.
Weekend plans often meant a movie or a concert with Bradley, or cheering from the stands at Justin’s tournaments. Fall evenings found her at football games at Farrington High School, clapping hard enough for the whole section. Those outings became our favorite stories because she turned ordinary events into shared memories.
Helen brought that same spirit to work when she started a new role as Secretary at the State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources. Away from her desk, she volunteered at SCC meetings for Kalihi Kai, Kalakaua, and Farrington Schools, glad to be part of any group that helped students. She never needed a title to serve; showing up was enough for her.
We will keep her example close as we step forward together. Thank you, Helen, for proving that love grows strongest when it is given freely; we will carry you with us, always.
Funeral services to be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 10am-2pm at Valley of the Temples Makai Chapel. Burial to follow.
