As a military child, moving to Hawaii as my first big move my grandmother who was afraid of planes didn’t come with my family.. Kumu Kealoha Kalama. Was an important part of my life . I loved learning the Hawaii language, culture, hula… I admired her grace and Ike. As a black girl dancing hula I carried her teachings even still at 31 . … every year I would research her to see her actively dancing and influencing the world, I always planned to return to Hawaii someday in hopes to see her again. I had a dream I went Hawaii to see her . Tonight I just learned of her passing. It hurt me deeply.
I just want her to know I much I appreciate her . and admired her, how much she impacted my life ! Aloha forever , Monique Crutchfiel
