Larry Barone was Chief Inspector of US Customs at Honolulu International Airport for over 20 years. He served in Customs for over 50 years after his service in the US Army during the occupation of Germany after WW2. I served under his leadership as a supervisor until his retirement. He was a true leader and manager of close to 100 Customs Officers and led the country in the interception of heroin from SE Asia in the early 1970’s. During the golden days of Japanese tourism, Larry managed the Customs inspection of up to 6000 foreign arrivals between 6 AM and Noon. I have never served under a better leader and manager! I was also lucky to be a friend of Larry and will seriously miss him!
