Larry was born August 13, 1935 in Honolulu, the second son of Seikichi and Hatsue Uyehara. Larry was proud to be a Kailua boy and fondly referred to himself as a "country jack". Larry's family were farmers and the power of the watermelon set the Uyehara kids on the road to the "English Standard" classroom, which made an important mark on his future success. Larry graduated from Roosevelt High School.
After high school Larry enlisted in the Coast Guard. He served 4 years and obtained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His military service set the ground work for attending the University of Hawaii and receiving a degree in Civil Engineering. He went on to work for both the Federal and State government. Larry was passionate about his work and loved the people he worked along side. Larry loved the beach and baseball; playing baseball when he was young and watching baseball when he was older.
The family would like to thank Navian Hospice Hawaii for their support during his final weeks; the Outpatient Treatment Center at Straub Hospital; Dr. Canby-Hagino, Dr. Okazaki and Francisco Conde for their care and efforts to extend his life and to make him as comfortable as possible.
Graveside service will be held at Diamond Head Cemetery on June 19th at 2 p.m.
